Welcome to SHOTS

The Students Hot On The Sciences (SHOTS) program at North Carolina A&T State University is a six week residential experience that will provide quality science instruction, hands-on discovery based research training and career enrichment that will give students a competitive edge for successfully matriculating through college. Rising high school juniors and seniors within North Carolina will be provided room and board, instructional materials and access to various research facilities and biomedical institutions both on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University and the Greater Greensboro area at-large.

Program Overview:

The SHOTS program will be based on human genetics and the Human Genome Project.
Students will have the opportunity to intensively study genetics in high-level, state-of-the-art, scientific research laboratories. Additionally, the program will expose students to the growing importance of technology and research; ethical implications of conducting research; and how to integrate mathematical and computational science tools to answer biologically relevant questions. Click here for our printable SHOTS brochure!

The goals of the SHOTS program are to:

  • Improve the overall understanding of the field of genetics and research
  • Enhance enthusiasm for scientific discovery
  • Nurture and facilitate the entry of participants into undergraduate scientific fields of study and science careers
  • Engage parents and enhance their competency and participation in student’s college preparatory activities.
